Lost auto key protection

If my customers go on long trips I always encourage them to have a spare auto key hidden in the car.  On a Vacation or road trip you could be 100's of miles from a mobile Locksmith and if you have a newer car, good luck finding service on the security immobilizer.  It's not worth ruining a family vacation over a spare car key, even if it cost $100 or more, you need to have them, period.  In Milwaukee or SE Wisconsin see http://www.safelock.com or anywhere else in the U.S.A. at http://www.findalocksmith.com

Hide-a-keys - keep your self safe & secure

Now you have your spare auto key, now what?  Do you keep it with a friend or family member to call when I need a bail out?  That works for when your in the area, but what if your on a long road trip?  The spare auto key hidden outside of the car.  There are a few factors to consider before you decide to use this method.

Where on the car?

In the good old days cars were build like tanks, steel everywhere.  With the need for better fuel economy cars have become lighter and more and more plastic is being used.  Bumpers and  fenders are no longer a valid place to attach a magnetic key holder.  The solution, stick-on Velcro attached key hider.  They will attach under plastic fenders or behind license plate.  Just clean the area you wish to attach key holder, remove adhesive backing and press into place.  The key pouch can be removed from Velcro backing in emergency lock-out and replaced for future use.

My car key is too big for a key holder

Throughout the evolution of the automobile, as the car get lighter, the key gets bigger.  With thick plastic heads and longer blades, the key hiders of the past just don't cut it.  The good news id the key hiders are keeping up with the times.  The extra large key hider is a good start, along with a non- plastic key copy should do the trick.  If the key still won't fit, you can have your locksmith alter the key to fit and they will know what parts of the key can be removed.

I have a transponder in my key, I can't put that outsider of my car, can I?

Most transponder keys are too large to fit into a key hider, but there is a way to protect your self and stay secure.  I would suggest you get a "dummy key", it is a mechanical key without the transponder chip.  While it won't run the car, it will open the door and fit into a key holder.  Hide a transponder key inside of your car and you will be covered in the event of a lock-out of lost key situation.

Here are a few ideas and things to consider to help keep yourself prepared, do it before it is too late!! Any questions in the Milwaukee area contact us at http://www.safelock.com, nationally  http://www.findalocksmith.com

Get that spare key!!!!

If I've heard it once, I've heard it a thousand times, "I kept on meaning to get that car key copied!", well now it's too late.  With auto keys becoming more and more complex, the perception is that they are too costly and or inconvenient to get copied.  Well, I'm here to tell you that's just not the case anymore.  In the past it was believed that there was only one source for replacement transponder or "chip" keys and remote transmitters, was the dealership.  Thanks to availability of aftermarket key cloners and programmers, locksmiths can now provide these advance transponder auto keys to you, often at a cost and time savings.  To find a Locksmith in your area go to http://www.findalocksmith.com/ or in Milwaukee go to http://www.safelock.com/
